An Alachua, Florida, police officer and a Mi Apa Latin Cafe truck driver teamed up for a quick Highway 441 cat rescue.
Spotted kitten on busy highway
In mid-May, a truck driver and an Alachua police officer worked together to stop traffic and save a kitten they had spotted in the middle of two lanes of busy traffic on US Highway 441. The Mi Apa Latin Cafe truck driver spotted the small black feline first, splayed out and scared, and Officer Stanfield of the Alachua Police Department arrived shortly after to assist.
Journey to rescue and find homes for kittens
The Mi Apa Latin Cafe driver uses their truck to block one lane of traffic to help protect the kitten from oncoming cars. Officer Stanfield then exits his vehicle and carefully scoops up the cat as cars continue to speed by in the other lane.
“I just found a baby kitten in the middle of 441,” Officer Stanfield is heard saying into his radio. Then, the police officer driving with the rescued kitten, which is small enough to fit in his hand.
The kitten is now safe and has found a loving forever home with one of the police department’s dispatchers.
This heartwarming rescue comes after another recent incident where a Good Samaritan saved a kitten that was reportedly thrown from a vehicle in Dutchess County, New York. The small feline, less than five weeks old, was rescued from the busy road by Joseph Logiudice and brought to the Dutchess County SPCA.
