A newborn kitten was given a second chance at life thanks to the heroic actions of one compassionate man.

The kitten was rescued after being thrown from a car door

Joseph Logiudice was stopped in traffic earlier this month when he witnessed someone throw the small, helpless cat out of their car window and into the middle of the busy East-West Arterial, one of the busiest streets in Dutchess County, New York.

“I’m not sure if nobody else noticed or just didn’t care, but I couldn’t live with watching such a small helpless creature get run over,” Logiudice said. “It wasn’t even a decision, I just acted because I knew I could help.”

Quickly getting out of his car, Logiudice rushed to scoop up the tiny, 1-pound kitten and placed her safely inside his vehicle. However, the frightened feline soon disappeared, hidden away in his car’s dashboard.

“I started to think I was crazy and had imagined the whole thing,” Logiudice recalled.

SPCA takes care of kitten abandoned by driver

After locating the kitten, Logiudice decided the Dutchess County SPCA would be the best place to bring her for care and treatment. The SPCA team spent 30 minutes carefully extracting the 5-week-old cat, whom they named Paradise, from the car’s dashboard.

“We’re so grateful for Joseph’s quick actions in saving Paradise,” said DCSPCA Executive Director Lynne Meloccaro. “It’s hard to imagine anything more terrifying and dangerous for a little kitten than being dropped onto a busy roadway. Because of Joseph, Paradise now knows the love and protection she, and every animal, deserves.”

Paradise, who weighs just over 1 pound, is currently in foster care and will need to reach around 2 pounds before she can be spayed and made available for adoption.

“Because of Joseph, Paradise now knows the love and protection she, and every animal, deserves,” the DCSPCA said.
