The Helpless Puppy’s Plight
The image of a poor abandoned dog lying alone in a dirt hole on an active Kansas highway has broken the hearts of many. It’s unfathomable why some individuals can be so heartless as to abandon their beloved pets. Pets deserve to be treated with love, respect, and kindness. A 4-month-old retriever mix puppy was left on the highway near Wamego, Kansas, for an unknown amount of time. The poor pup was so hungry and tired that it collapsed on the side of the road, a heartbreaking sight that tugged at the emotions of all who witnessed it.
Fortunately, a group of Coleman Electric employees, on their way to Manhattan, noticed the puppy in the back of a trailer and made the decision to stop and rescue the helpless animal. Matt Mcmillan and Steve McLean took the puppy, whom they named Karmel, back to their workplace and provided the care and attention she so desperately needed.
The dog was rescued and brought in to be cared for diligently
Mcmillan happily recounts that Karmel enjoys lying next to his feet after they found her. She slept a lot in the initial days, clearly needing to catch up on rest and regain her strength. Mcmillan took Karmel to be scanned for a microchip, hoping to find her original owners.
The scan revealed that Karmel had been rescued from a shelter in Manhattan before being adopted. When the original owners were contacted, they informed Mcmillan that they no longer wanted the puppy back. Heartbroken, Mcmillan made the decision to adopt Karmel himself, realizing that he couldn’t live without her and that he could provide her with the happy life she deserved.

The dog’s journey was a tumultuous one – from being in a shelter, to being adopted, then abandoned, and finally finding a new family. Mcmillan’s decision to adopt Karmel has given her a second chance at a joyful life, one filled with love and care.
