Found abandoned kitten in mailbox

A post office in Clarksburg, Ohio, received an unexpected visitor when a kitten was found inside one of their mailboxes. On the evening of Saturday, June 15, an agent from the Fayette Regional Humane Society was called to the post office after reports that a 10-month-old orange-and-white kitten had been “shoved through a mailbox slot.”

The kitten, described as “scared but unharmed,” was quickly rescued and taken to the Fayette Regional Humane Society’s Animal Care and Adoption Center. There, the staff decided to name the kitten “Special Delivery” in light of his unique rescue.

“I’ve seen kittens stuck in many places, but this was new for me!” said Chief Humane Agent Brad Adams. “I’m sure it was a bit of a shock to hear meowing coming from the mailbox.”

Dr. Lee Schrader, the executive director of the Fayette Regional Humane Society, expressed gratitude that the kitten was found in time, calling him “our most precious special delivery.” Dr. Schrader also reminded the public that “if you find a kitten, please call your nearest shelter for advice — kittens can’t be mailed!”

The post confirmed that Special Delivery is currently recovering at the shelter and has already “stolen the hearts of the staff.” Adams noted that the kitten “meows for attention and wants to be picked up and cuddled by everyone who passes by.”

The Fayette Regional Humane Society shared that Special Delivery will be available for adoption within the next few weeks, giving him a bright future ahead after his unusual start.
