In a heartwarming reunion, a cat named Mahina has been reunited with her owners after being displaced by the devastating wildfires that ravaged Maui last year.

The Maui Humane Society found Mahina after she had survived 100 days in the burn zone. Her family had been relocated to the mainland of Hawaii after the natural disaster, and they filed a missing pet report in hopes of finding their beloved feline. However, as they later moved all the way to Montana, they had lost hope of ever being reunited with Mahina.
Through the tireless efforts of the Maui Humane Society’s Fire Task Force, the cat was safely trapped and her owners were identified via her microchip. The owners were “overjoyed to learn that Mahina was a survivor.”

Getting Mahina back to her “Ohana” (family) “took a village,” the organization said, as they navigated flights and winter weather to transport her all the way to Montana. The Maui Humane Society covered the costs of Mahina’s health certificate and travel, with Hawaiian Airlines and Alaska Airlines ensuring her safe passage. A “trusted transporter” then helped deliver her from Seattle to her family in Montana.
In an update, Mahina’s overjoyed owners reported that she is “doing soooo so good” and is now a “happy kitty” who loves to play and watch TV with her parents. They noted that she has chosen to stay strictly indoors since arriving in Montana, as she is not used to the snowy weather.
This heartwarming tale of resilience and the power of perseverance is a testament to the love between pets and their owners, and the compassion of the animal rescue community. Mahina’s journey home “took a village” to accomplish, but it was all worth it to reunite this cat with her loving family.
